How does it work?
Shortys creates a custom wp_query via a shortcode. It accepts most of the parameter available in WP_Query
Example #1:
I want to filter all ads from New York and display them in a page.
1. Create a page and add this shortcode
[cp_shc meta_key="cp_state" meta_value="new york"]
2. Select the plugin’s template and save, that’s it!
Example #2:
I want a page with all ads with prices ranging from 200$ to 500$
1. Create a page and add this shortcode
[cp_shc meta_key="cp_price" meta_value="200,500" meta_compare=">="]
2. Select the plugin’s template and save.
Example #3:
I want a page with all featured ads of user Dimitris and Sebet
1. Create a page and add this shortcode
[cp_shc author__in=”2,3″ featured=”yes”]

I want a page with all featured ads of user Dimitris and Sebet in category Autos
1. Create a page and add this shortcode

3. Where can i use the pages?
In your menus or your sidebar using the ‘custom menu’ widget.
4. Can i use it with my custom fields?
Absolutely!
Example:
You have a custom field ‘color’ which is a dropdown with 3 values and you want a page to show all ads that have the color ‘blue’.

Manual Installation:

- Open WP Admin dashboard -> Plugins -> Add new -> Upload
- Upload and activate the Plugin from the Plugins page.

Options are endless. This can’t hurt your rankings in search engines. I will run some search test after a few months to see if pages like this will actually help.
Either way this is great for website users to find what they are looking for.
I added a text widget on sidebar with links to “popular searches” and I was just using search terms.

I’m not sure you realize this yet, but you just made an excellent run at a CP SEO Plugin. I was going to use a rss feed pulled from the DB to create various page results. And then continue to build these pages with other content. And use them in my content marketing campaigns across social media platforms.
Using your plugin just made my life a whole lot easier, especially since I use several custom fields. With your shortcode plugin, I can create several hundreds of long lasting optimized pages for search engines to index and rank. Genius plugin Bruno!

@andersj, in short, no. Shortys runs only on the pages you setup and it queries the database just like a normal ClassiPress ad.

Hi Sebet, what happens when you have, say 400 authors? How will this work in the dropdown menu with so many authors? Will or can they be organised alpabetically in groups? eg: Authors A-C, D-F, G-J, K-M etc…Also, does this only work if you create pages or can you place the shortcode links anywhere on any page?
@talent, no, currently it’s not possible to organize users alpabetically.Shortys uses WP_Query to query the authors and it’s limited to author ID’s or basic name matches, not name parts like ‘A*’ or ‘B*’.
You can use the shortcodes on any page but you may need some CSS tweaking since ads are displayed using the same CSS styling as the default CLassiPress ads.
Bruno, just so I am clear… if I have over 500+ authors then my dropdown list will be a very very long and I can organise the list by user ID or alphabetically?
Sorry, you already said you can’t organise alphabetically. So the organisation is only by user ID, in other words as and when an author is added?
Am chasing this solution too @talent, thanks for raising the question….big problem on classipress finding a solution to search a list of authors in some way.

@kbieri85, as long as you use a page with the Shortys default template (mirrors ClassiPress’s default listing page) there shouldn’t be any problems. Using the shortcode outside the default templates will require some CSS tweaking to avoid the ads displaying weirdly.

I am looking for a location plugin so my users can filter by location. this sounds interesting. my question is does it works with child themes? I am using Flatron and eclassify.
Other question is I would like to use it in the sidebars.. Is it possible as widget?

Hi @maria, it works fine with most of the child themes that we tested, Flatron included.So far no issues found.
To use it in your sidebar you will have to create a menu and then use the ‘custom menu’ widget in your sidebars.
I speak from Brazil, your plugin works in version 3.9 of wordpress. I installed it as recommended and even of an error in admin.php page of your plugin. Error on line 99 … function.
I thought it was because of the theme son Flatron. I performed a fresh install of childless ClassiPress theme and the error occurred in the same way.

Is it possible to add some description before the shortcode? For the example I want to feature Domo’s ads on a page simplesteps.gr/demo/domos/
Then the page title will be: Domo’s listing
Under the title there will be a description about Domo, his address and his phone number.
Then his ads displayed under the description.
We are working on an update that will include this feature(and others), in the meantime you can use a temp fix to do it.You can check the demo to see if that what’s you’re looking for.

Deleted the folder over ftp so i get again access to the dashboard:
Running on Version 5.2.17
If i update it over my hoster, does it infect other plugins oder worse theme?

Same problem here, can not access dashboard on the backend, after activate the plugin. Running 5.2.17.
Have made 3 installs on this plugin and 2 fails..Have a nother host with other PHP version and there get an error..
Hope there will be a fix on this, so I can use the plugin..

WordPress requires at least 5.2.4 to run properly.I am not sure if with this version the error is going to go away.The latest version of PHP is 5.5.x, our tests show that with 5.3 the plugin works without errors, so the best thing to do is to update your PHP versions for sure.Another user had the same problem and he just updated his php version and the error stopped.
ps.to clarify there is no error in the plugin,what happens is that php 5.2 does not recognize code that 5.3 allows : )

We added a sticky in the support forum for anyone using php<5.3, if you follow the steps you can use the plugin without problems.

I’ve bought this plugin but need a feature and need a code to keep custom fields in URLs for signup instead of add them into forms for user selection.
For example I want to seperate signup URLs for those live in UAE from UK for different translation and need a seperate URL for signup for each country.

Yes you can add any type of content in the page, but Shorty is using its own template, so if you want to use this plugin in a full width page you will have to mod the plugin/theme.

A quick question.
The descriptions here talk about creating pages that display ads within a particular ad category. Is it possible to display a list of ad categories instead of displaying ads using a short code?
For the sake of simplicity, I have the following ad category hierarchy: There are 50 top level ad categories, one for each US State. Under each of these ad categories, I have 50 cities. That is 50 city ad categories under each of the 50 state ad categories. A total of 2,500 city ad categories.
Can I create a page for each of the 50 states (50 different pages) and insert a “state category” short code on each page to display the 50 city ad categories on that state’s page? Clicking on one of these city ad categories would then take me to the actual ads for that city.

Hi, if i understood correctly, you want Shortys for displaying categories and not ads, so unfortunately Shortys cannot do this.Shortys can query your database and display only ads.At least for now : )

I had a new issue using:
[cp_shc meta_key=”cp_price” meta_value=”26,100″ meta_compare=”BETWEEN”]
The script are finding no listing in this range of price but I have like 20 of those, as well on the range between 1, 25 I have 2, but the script are finding just one.
Can you please have a look and let me know how to solve the issue?
